  • Watching brief: 2018 removal of house and barn at Sorisdale

    Sorisdale, Isle of Coll
Standing building recording and watching brief
Rebecca Shaw – Rebecca Shaw Archaeological Services
NM 27160 63200 A programme of work was undertaken, 14–15
May 2018, prior to and during the removal of a barn and house,
in advance of construction of a new house. The standing
building survey established that the two buildings date from
the mid- to late 19th century. The barn may have originally
been a winnowing barn and latterly had an entrance blocked,
and either continued as a barn or became a store. There were
no indications that the former dwelling had any other use.

NM 2642 6368 Rubha Sgor-innis, Sorisdale A pair of small coastal mounds is visible towards the edge of the once cultivated level field. It is impossible to say with certainty if they represent clearance activity or if they could also be prehistoric burials.
