Pre-Reformation chapels and burial grounds on Tiree

Object Type:

Summary

There are 11 ecclesiastical sites with remains that survived until at least the first antiquarian visits. The ones that are relatively easy to visit are marked *. There are other sites with no remains, but that are marked by place-names or other evidence (see Holliday, J. (2021) Longships on the Sand. An Iodhlann, pp. 86–104.) William Reeves (!854) ‘The Island of Tiree’ was the first antiquarian to visit Tiree, and his account is still an excellent reference
