Summary
Croft 3, Kirkapol, Tiree
Watching brief and excavation
Charlotte Hunter – GUARD Archaeology Ltd
NM 04506 47515 A watching brief was undertaken, on 2–3
June 2021, during the topsoil stripping for a new agricultural
building at Kirkapol, Tiree. An area 18 x 15m was stripped and
revealed an area of rig and furrow and several pits containing
sherds of prehistoric pottery, provisionally dated to the
Neolithic and Bronze Age periods. A test trench through the
wind-blown sand revealed further archaeological features. As
these were below the depth required for the new building it was
agreed that they would be preserved in situ and the test trench
backfilled.
